A Senior Pet Consultation is designed for older pets who are ageing but are not currently living with a significant chronic or serious disease or requiring long-term medication. It focuses on helping families understand and support the changes that can come with ageing.
During the consultation, we assess your pet’s mobility and cognition, discuss how to objectively monitor their quality of life at home, and provide guidance on what you may expect as they continue to age.
Senior Pet Checks are recommended twice a year for pets over 8 years of age.
A Senior Pet Consultation differs from a Palliative Care Consultation, which is designed for pets living with a serious or life-limiting condition and focuses on managing symptoms, maintaining comfort and creating a personalised care plan for their ongoing needs.

Yes. Horizon offers Telehealth consultations, which are particularly useful for Virtual Quality of Life Assessments and End-of-Life Guidance appointments. They can also be helpful for families whose pet has been physically assessed by one of our veterinarians within the previous 6 months and who need further guidance or support.
Because your veterinarian cannot physically examine your pet during a Telehealth consultation, the advice provided is for general guidance only. By law, we cannot prescribe medications, make a formal diagnosis, or provide treatment for a specific illness or pain without an in-person examination. An in-person consultation may therefore be recommended where a physical assessment is needed.
